Facial hair has long history, and different meaning for both sexes. For men it is a natural symbol of masculinity, thus the facial hair has been often preserved throughout ages in men and styled in different ways. Of course, it is not often like this today, since many men will keep their facial hair off the face.
For women the situation looks quite different: the most of them (and possibly all of them!) try to get rid of hair on the face as soon as possible, and as effective as possible. Smooth and soft skin is what usually being considered to be a sign of femininity.
The causes of possible presence of facial hair on beautiful ladies’ faces can be of a different nature. The puberty, pregnancy, and menopause can be such causes.
One common cause is a hormonal imbalance. There are estrogens and androgens (male hormones) in women and with aging, the levels of both hormones decline, the same is for the ratio between them, which actually may appear that as if a woman suddenly has more of the male hormones that may lead to facial hair appear. Yet, of course, this is not the main or single cause. Some medications like cyclosporine, phenytoin, anabolic steroids, combination medications with testosterone such as minoxidil, and estratest, can become the cause as well. Polycystic ovarian syndrome and obesity can also lead to unwanted hair grow on the face.
The facial hair removal for women might include: shaving, waxing, using creams, laser treatment, and electrolysis
First three are belong to the temporary hair removing treatment. The latter are in the category of permanent hair removal category.
Temporary Facial Hair Removing Solutions
Shaving is met often, though it is not really pleasant practice. It seems to be cheap, but in a short run, and the results will last for a week or two usually.
Some try plucking (usually on eyebrows), which removes hair for longer period of time, but still not for good.
Another method is waxing. It looks similar to plucking, but more painful. It can even bring irritation to a sensitive skin. It is also true for some hair removal creams that can sometimes even have a bad smell. One known cream is Vaniqa, which seems to be rather good in decreasing women facial hair, but still not permanent.
Epilators with tweezers are available in most beauty stores, but according to Food and Drug Administration (FDA) these things are not certain to provide permanent hair removing.
Permanent Facial Hair Removal Methods
If you need a permanent, everlasting solution, there are two main options: electrolysis and laser hair removal. The unwanted facial hair women dislike can be taken off for long with these methods.
In electrolysis the hair is removed by using electrical currents. A metal probe is inserted into an individual hair follicle, and the current that goes through it, destroys the follicle. The process is often pretty comfortable, but sometimes there is a slight pinprick, or even more painful feeling.
Several treatments may be required to attain the desired result. The approximate cost of it is around $20 for 10 minutes and around $35-40 for half an hour.
Other way to permanent facial hair removal for women is to undergo laser hair removal treatment. It also requires 3-5 treatments in average, and will cost from $300 to $600 or even more, depending on the area treated, and on the particular clinic. For exact prices it is better to contact the clinic and get the consultation.
Before you choose any of the above mentioned methods as a facial hair remover for women, consult with your dermatologist to get an advice on your skin type to avoid possible negative side effects of the treatment.
